Creation of Belgian Sweets Design
In 1985, Guy De Smet, his son Bernard and Malvina Peeters founded Belgian Sweets Design. Today, renamed BSD, the company has expanded its activities while remaining true to its core business and fundamental values.
The BSD story begins in Jette. The shop was smaller than it is today: a simple salon. They sold chocolate wrappers and Christmas tree decorations.
The showroom is now located in an underground garage, and we organise the storage of current orders in an old wine cellar.
The tradition of open days begins to celebrate the start of the two key seasons in the world of chocolate: Easter and Christmas.
The combination of Guy De Smet's delicious dishes and the collections of Malvina Peeters (the founders) is so successful that it becomes necessary to organise two open house weekends per season.
Bernard De Smet, Guy's son, takes over the management of BSD and decides to move to Saintes. This transition will take place over a period of 3 years.
The company officially set up in Saintes in June, and the building has expanded over the years.
BSD supplies packaging for the top 1000 most beautiful boutiques in Belgium, extends its activity to Europe and designs seasonal collections.
Purchase of the first box printing machine. Exports increase to represent a significant proportion of sales.
New partners get involved to develop the company and make it sustainable. BSD takes part in trade fairs in Italy, Germany and China.
BSD celebrates its 30th anniversary. It now exports 60% of its products in Europe and around the world. A new phase begins with the launch of Blue Zest, a design studio and visual communications agency.
